We are a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt sports association started by homeschoolers to serve the central Texas area. We have athletes from Temple, Belton, Killeen, and the surrounding communities, and do not limit our membership geographically. In addition to the sports we currently offer, we are open to offering others if coaches volunteer for those sports. We are a nonprofit volunteer organization and rely on our parents and sponsors, such as our #1 sponsor Primerica, for our existence! Please contact us if you would like more information. The CenTex Chargers Varsity Football team takes 2nd place in the Iron Man Tournament!! This past week our CenTex Chargers played in the Iron Man Tournament in Hutto, TX which is a grueling three days consisting of three football games. This is an extreme test of endurance both physical and mental. Due to the Charger's high rank amongst the independent six man teams they began the tournament as the second seed out of eight teams. The CenTex Chargers played the Victoria Homeschool Cobras at 9:30 PM on the Thursday night. The Chargers defeated the Cobras 49 to 0 with Stephen Ash (62 yards rushing-2 touchdowns, 51 yards passing-1 touchdown) and Robert Valdez (33 yards rushing-2 touchdowns) who led the Charger offense. Andre Bailey ran for a 15 yard touchdown, Jacob Maddox ran for a 22 yard touchdown and Josh Hughes caught a 20 yard touchdown pass from Stephen Ash. Leading the Charger defense were Barak Cloe (7 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 passes defended), Aaron Butler (6 tackles, 1 interception) and Cathan Hattaway ( 6 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 caused fumble). On Friday night the CenTex Chargers played the Fruitvale Bobcats at 7:00 PM. The Chargers defeated the Bobcats 26 to 6 with Robert Valdez (108 yards rushing-2 touchdowns) and Stephen Ash (61 yards rushing-1 touchdown, 24 yards passing-1 touchdown) leading the Charger offense. Andre Bailey scored on a 24 yard touchdown strike from Ash. Leading the Charger defense were Barak Cloe (17 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 caused fumble and 1 blocked kick) and Aaron Butler (9 tackles, 1 recovered fumble). In the final quarter of the game with seconds left, disaster struck the Chargers. Stephen Ash an integral part of the Charger's team was injured while making a tackle. The Chargers also lost key defensive back John Sancideo due to a head injury. With the win against the Bobcats the Chargers would play the Houston Emery Weiner Jaguars for the Championship on Saturday night at 8:00 PM. The Jaguars have a roster of 27 players consisting of a dedicated offense and a dedicated defense and special teams. With a roster of 13 players, almost all of the Chargers play both ways. This would be like a 1A eleven man team playing a 5A eleven man team. The Chargers took the field on Saturday night banged up and without their key player quarterback Stephen Ash. The Chargers readied for battle and kept the score close until the 3rd quarter when further injuries and fatigue began to set in. The Jaguars defeated the Chargers 78 to 30 giving the CenTex Chargers second place for the Iron Man Tournament. Without four turnovers, two returned for touchdowns, it would have been a different game. The Chargers were led offensively by Robert Valdez who rushed for an incredible 268 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. Andre Bailey rushed for 99 yards and 1 touchdown and Cathan Hattaway scored on a 2 yard run. Barak Cloe kicked 3 extra points. Leading the Chargers defensively were Barak Cloe (11 tackles, 1 caused fumble) and Robert Valdez ( 9 tackles). Robert Valdez was awarded the Iron Man Offensive MVP and Barak Cloe was awarded the Iron Man Defensive MVP. After everything was said and done our Chargers proved to be true iron men with several of our players continuing to play with injuries and exhaustion. Great job Chargers, you can hold your heads high you left it all on the field. Thanks so much for our tremendous fan support! The Chargers will now compete in the sixman independent playoffs starting with Victoria Homeschool in Victoria at 2:00 PM on Friday 11/11/11. |
