Check back soon for information about how to register for our new middle school girls basketball team!

The Texas State Homeschool Basketball Tournament offers a program where individual homeschooled student athletes can participate in the tournament even if their area does not have a homeschool basketball team.  It's called Team Texas and you just enter as an individual and they place individuals on "at large" teams that participate in the tournament like any other team.  The tournament provides the uniform and the coach (and they are also looking for parents who would like to volunteer to coach a Team Texas team).

The individual fee is $60 which includes the jersey (yours to keep) and a guaranteed minimum 4 games.

See below for more information.  Let us know if go!
Richard Benefield here once again this year with the Texas Home School State Basketball Tournament “Team Texas” program.  The tournament is once again offering the “Team Texas” concept for all home school athletes who wish to participate in the tournament but do not have an age-specific team to play on.   The idea behind “Team Texas” is to provide the opportunity to participate in the state tournament to as many home school kids as possible.  Participation is available to players who are already a part of a home school sports organization as well as to home school kids who do not have an organization of their own.  Below are some examples of situations that may lend themselves well to participation.
Suppose you are a part of a home school organization and you are an 11-year-old boy.  You don’t have enough kids your age in your organization to form a 12U boys team.  You can enter as a “Team Texas” participant and play on a  12U boys team with others who are in a similar situation.  As another example, say you are a 13-year-old girl.  You have siblings who play for an existing team but you don’t.  You are eligible to enter as a “Team Texas” player at the 14U girls level.  How about if you are a home school student but your family is not involved with a home school sports organization?  That is ok too.  You may sign up for a “Team Texas” team in your age appropriate level.
In cases where multiple players want to be on a “Team Texas” team together or where players want to play for a specific coach, we do our best to accommodate those requests.  There is a section on the registration page that allows you to designate others you want to play with and the coach you want to play for.  Please remember we need parents help to coach these teams, keep the official scorebook for the “home” games, and work the clock for the “visitor” games.  Players will receive a reversible “Team Texas” jersey that is yours to keep.  Last year we had almost 50 young people participate in the tournament on a “Team Texas” team.  I believe most of them agree that it was a tremendously fun and positive experience.

Our partner organization, Providence Preparatory School, will be offering basketball for 6th-12th grade boys.

If you were age 11-18 on September 1, 2013, and attend Providence or are homeschooled, you are eligible to play.

 Here are the details:
  • There will be two teams: 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be on a team coached by Jaime Madrid (Providence dad); 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders will be coached by Dewaine Pouncy (former coach at Memorial Christian Academy in Killeen).
  • Both teams will practice at the same time: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:45 to 5:00 pm in the gym at First Baptist Church, Belton.
  • As we have the past couple of years, we schedule games with other small private schools in the area. We are not part of an official league.
  • We will help every boy improve in practice, and respect all players, but the best basketball players will get the bulk of playing time during games.
  • The registration cost is $100 (we are paying for gym usage and a few other basketball expenses - all money goes directly to costs associated with basketball).

  • We expect the season to go through February, and will distribute information about games later. In the past, many of the games have happened during practice time. We are also looking to participate in a pre-season tournament in mid-December.
If interested, please contact and pay registration fees as soon as possible.
